Summary

The side event will bring together a panel of Local Pathways Fellows to showcase concrete examples of youth-led initiatives for the implementation of the New Urban Agenda in different countries and cities.

o The Local Pathways Fellowship is a network of young thought leaders, urban planners, sustainability advocates, researchers and innovators from more than 50 cities across the world to advance local dialogue, collaboration and problem solving around the Sustainable Development Goals and the New Urban Agenda, and to make cities and urban settlements 'smart, fair and sustainable'.

o Through a year-long training program and peer-to-peer dialogues that focus on practical skills and field experiences, the Fellowship empowers youth from diverse urban settings, socio-economic and cultural backgrounds to develop the skills need to promote local ownership of the SDGs and the NUA and to demonstrate the role of youth in contributing to this process.

o The Fellowship's 'think global, act local' model upholds the principle of 'leaving no one behind', creates a space for like-minded urban youth to learn from and collaborate with their peers, and empowers them to materialize the common good by taking actions in the communities that they call home.

o The side event will bring together the most outstanding Local Pathways Fellows - with representatives from all continents - to share their youth-led urban solutions and demonstrate how does the Fellowship help them develop their initiatives.

o These youth-led urban solutions will be concrete examples of how young people are contributing to the implementation of the SDGs and the NUA in cities across the globe.
