Transformation of Green Infrastructures in City of Kuala Lumpur through Urban Solution and Innovation

Malaysian Government is really focusing on the development of green technology in Malaysia. The responsibility to advocate the green technology in the country is the Ministry of Energy, Green Technology and Water of Malaysia. When the government has announced the policy for development of green technology, they constantly introduced the programs and gave the incentive for the innovation that happened in Malaysia industries. The strong support from the government enhances the development of green technology in Malaysia. Green infrastructure refers to the network of natural and semi-natural areas, features and spaces in rural and urban areas, terrestrial, freshwater, coastal and marine areas. Green infrastructure can be strengthened through strategic and coordinated initiatives that focus on monitoring, restoring, improving and connecting existing areas and features as well as creating new uses and features. Malaysia is embarking on green growth and it is expressly stipulated in the 11th Malaysia Plan 2016-2020 (11MP).The networking event will:

a. Strengthening governance to drive transformation by enhancing regulatory and institutional framework, coordination, capacity as well as monitoring and evaluation mechanisms;

b. Enhancing awareness to create shared responsibility through comprehensive communication, education and awareness programmes and platforms for knowledge sharing; and

c. Establishing sustainable financing mechanisms by expanding existing and identifying new economic instruments.

The commitment by the government alone would not be sufficient. The enabling environment for green growth must involve a long-term commitment from all stakeholders, business, civil society and most importantly the people. The Green Technology Master Plan (GTMP) outlines Malaysia's green technology strategy to create a resource-efficient, low-carbon footprint economy. Under the Green Malaysia Plan Flagship, the organisation to date has developed 10 green policies and blueprints, including the National Electric Mobility Blueprint, Kedah Green Agenda, Selangor Green Action Plan as well as the recently sanctioned Green Technology Master Plan.
