Engaging young men and women in city planning: The Saudi Experience

The event will indicate how Saudi contribute on the implementation of the New Urban Agenda and the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals particularly in youth sector. To that end, the event will be divided between major key actors in youth field in one table to discuss essential issues. Furthermore, the session will highlight on who are the key actors in engaging young people.

The “State of Saudi Youth Report“ report will be launched in the event as well. The Report is considered an essential element of Future Saudi Cities Programme and will be a policy instrument to assess and monitor urban conditions and enhance the participation of young men and women, making them part of the future prospects in Saudi Arabia within the context of the SDGs and the New Urban Agenda. The aim of the report is to identify some of the policies and driving forces that underlie performance of the City Prosperity Index, and their impacts and implications for the implementation of the NUA and the SDGs especially Goal 11 “to make cities and human settlements inclusive, safe, resilient and sustainable”, and other SDGs that are gender and urban-related.

Based on the work undertaken by FSCP in collaboration with several partners (WRAIF, KSCLG) , and others, this report was prepared. This report will be focused on explaining the different indicators that describes the youth’s lived experience in cities, as well outlined four key areas in which youth and sustainable urbanization have been analysed: productivity, infrastructure development, equity and social inclusion and urban governance. The essence of this is to identify some of the policies and driving forces that underlie youth’s engagement in cities, and their impacts and implications for the implementation of the NUA and the urban-related SDGs, especially Goal 11 which seek to make cities and human settlements inclusive, safe, resilient and sustainable
