Summary

Today, more than half of world populations lives in cities. Urbanisation has led to shocks and stresses such as traffic congestion, overcrowding populations, unexpected disaster, public health and demography shifts in cities. In maneuvering the cities future through urbanisations, a synergy among all stakeholders in the cities are significant.

There are 3 major trends around the world; urbanisation, globalization and climate change. Urban scenario in Malaysia, in 2015 percentage of Malaysia populations that lives in cities were at 74.3% and estimated to grows up to 80% by 2030. What's happens in one city have more and more effect to another city. More and more cities are vulnerable to the changes in climate changes. Therefore, preparing our cities from Urban Resilience perspective in ensuring the system in our cities could strive, adapt and grow no matter what shocks and stresses happens.

Enhancing understanding among cities in Malaysia about their challenges and opportunities is vital. With WUF9 hosted by Malaysia this year, it is an ultimate opportunity for a comprehensive partnership and collaboration done by cities around the world with Malaysian cities.
