Summary

How can urban culture and heritage foster the implementation of the NUA and SDGs? How can international networks on Culture, Heritage, Landscape, Cities and Planning take the lead to deliver adequate guidelines and support for localizing Goal 11.4 through operational projects? How could the international experiences on heritage, landscape and culture be mobilized to develop new tools and innovation for urban management? How are culture and heritage enablers for social inclusiveness, economic development and environmental sustainability?

Large and small cities are making culture a strong asset for their economic and social development. It is an industry with different fields as cinema production, building conservation and rehabilitation, cultural management for exhibitions and large events. The role of culture is to foster interrelations, develop creativity, share values, reveal human genius. It is one of the stronger tool for inclusiveness.

Urban heritage is an asset for cities. Well managed, urban heritage provides better living conditions, upgrades the urban environment. Urban heritage is not replicable and generally covers a small part of large cities, but it is a main flagship for city marketing and attractiveness.

Urban and peri-urban landscapes contribute to the assets of cities and should be well managed for supporting city development and enhancing the quality of life. Landscape protection shows how it is a resource for social and economic development.

Metropolitan areas are the new scale of cities for the 21st century. Metropolization is facilitating the link between urban and rural areas. The concept of urban landscape and urban heritage could be extended to the metropolitan scale, a new horizon to be define for heritage preservation.

The present Networking event shows the different aspects of Culture as a driver of change to achieve the SDGs and NUA. International partnership on Culture is a strong support for better life in cities.
