The Union for the Mediterranean (UfM) is an intergovernmental organization bringing together 43 countries: 28 European Union Member States and 15 Southern and Eastern Mediterranean Countries with the aim of enhancing regional dialogue and cooperation among its Member States through the implementation of concrete projects with tangible socio-economic impact on the region's citizens.
The event aims at raising awareness about the creation and the launching of the UfM Regional Platform on Sustainable Urban Development and its thematic working groups, bringing together key regional and international organizations including UN related agencies, as well as donors and International Financial Institutions, with a view to enhancing synergies and sharing best practices among key Euro-Mediterranean and global actors.
This event will also be the occasion to put the emphasis on the importance of the UfM Urban Agenda, which was adopted by the 43 UfM Member States at the Second UfM Ministerial Conference on Sustainable Urban Development, held in Cairo in May 2017.
Furthermore, the UfM Networking event will illustrate how the Mediterranean agenda could effectively contribute to the advancement of the Global agenda and to the implementation of the SDG's, addressing through a holistic approach the demographic and environmental challenges.
